TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year Campaign Reveals It to Be Click-Hungry and Myopic

by JV Marx

Once a year, TIME Magazine is relevant again with its Person of the Year cover. And unfortunately that still rings true in 2020, despite nothing else going according to the usual plan.

Who floats a “short” “list” of finalists for Person of the Year, and literally pits The Movement for Racial Justice against Joe Biden—then picks Joe Biden [and Kamala Harris]. The other contenders were Fauci and the Front LIie Healthcare Workers and, no, seriously: Donald Trump.

This is how he became president, and we can’t help continuing to legitimize and platform this lunatic. I thought this level of stupidity-evil only existed in fairy tales.

But as we sit here tonight, with Bernie Sanders begging the Senate to throw the American people what will probably be our second and final COVID relief payment just days from the holidays, as we are two weeks away from millions of Americans being evicted from their homes during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, and as another Black American has been murdered by the state—TIME magazine is taking the time to praise Joe Biden for “not listening to anybody” during his campaign.

Do you mean like the millions of people who left their houses in the middle of a deadly airborne pandemic to protest in the streets? Are these people seriously that myopic? This is probably why TIME is only relevant for one day a year.

Figure out what the hell this is supposed to mean:

“Defeating the Minotaur was one thing; finding the way out of the labyrinth is another.”

The Minotaur. The Minotaur is… Trump? Is COVID the Minotaur? Are we just out of honest ways to sell magazines?

Don’t worry, there’s more. Get a load of this:

“I got widely criticized,” Biden recalls, for “saying that we had to not greet Trump with a clenched fist but with more of an open hand. That we weren’t going to respond to hate with hate.” To him, it wasn’t about fighting Trump with righteous vengeance, or probing any deeper rot that might have contributed to his ascent. Biden believed most voters simply wanted reconciliation after four years of combat, that they craved decency, dignity, experience and competence. “What I got most criticized for was, I said we had to unite America,” he says. “I never came off that message.”

So… we’re not even going to look at what happened and why? Gee, I don’t know, seems like a great way for Donald Trump or Someone Just Like Him to become the president again in four years. Just a thought!

Maybe, if you want to compare our situation to fights against a mythological beast, it’s not the Minotaur we should be talking about. It’s the hydra. And guess what: We cut off one of the heads, and two more grow in their place.

We have a serious problem on our hands when we put a man who stands for nothing and a cop up for president in the year 2020. One who won’t even attempt to seek justice for us from the Trump Administration. One who just the other day is out here tweeting that the American People aren’t asking for a hand out.

The American People are absolutely asking for a “hand out,” just like they have been asking, screaming, and burning down police stations seeking justice for Black people in America. Like we’ve been asking them to stop platforming Donald Trump. The voice of the people has never been more clear.

Decency and honor? Just more bullshit being sold, like a magazine no one has read since the ’90s that had the cynicism to tease the possibility of Donald Trump being Person of the Year. Whatever—enjoy your clicks on Facebook.
