How Much Camp Is Too Much Camp, Asks First Trailer for Lady Gaga–Starring ‘House of Gucci’

Someone check Chef Boyardee HQ, because they might be all out of ridiculous Italian accents based on the first trailer for House of Gucci.

Starring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, and Jared Leto (undergoing a “radical” transformation into a balding, portly man that has Paul Giamatti saying, “Hold my linguini”), the upcoming high-gloss drama is serving lewks, sass, and plenty of Gaga camp. How strong are the accents? Well, strong enough to make you think. “Oh wow, so-and-so is really committed to the accent” every time they open their mouths. Which, y’know, is probably not ideal for losing yourself in a story.

Of course, who can say how the film itself unfolds, but the trailer is cut for maximum camp appeal—that cut to Gaga’s hand, weighed down by a diamond, stirring tea!—and social media exposure. And the good content creators on Twitter and elsewhere have been busy in the 14 hours since the trailer dropped July 29. Is this what we have to look forward to for the next four months until the film is finally released November 24 (COVID willing)?
