Emilio Enciso, Lexington Polo Club Manager, expressed excitement, stating, “plans for the August tournament are off to an incredible start. We are excited to welcome the GPL to the horse park.”
The weekend itinerary kicks off with a Players Welcome Reception on July 31, followed by tours of Lexington’s iconic thoroughbred breeding farms and the Bourbon Trail. The GPL finals on August 3 will feature three thrilling polo matches and a lively tailgate competition.
GPL founder Chip McKenney emphasized the importance of visibility and equality, stating, “We are excited about the new components that we will announce soon and are forever grateful for the unwavering commitment of our players, supporters, and sponsors for doing all they can to enact change.”
The GPL’s website boasts itself as the only LGBTQ polo league in the world, and that a portion of ticket sales go to the benefit of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. It is officially recognized by the United States Polo Association.
