In case you’re a healthy person not tied to the insanity of social media, there is a growing online obsession with investigating whether or not various celebrities are secretly trans. While this is a somewhat inevitable and predictable off- shoot of the endlessly nosy MAGA culture, what is less predictable is the way they have suddenly decided many of their own favorite figures are trans–and how they’ve also decided, in their own broken way, to affirm actual trans figures gender.

Recent “transvestigations” of right wing guns-rights grifter and Kenosha-shooter Kyle Rittenhouse occurred almost instantly when he said that he’d write in Ron Paul instead of voting for Trump in the upcoming 2024 US Presidential Election. Similarly, “alpha male” influencer Andrew Tate has caused a right wing panic over recent photos of himself wearing a bikini. To those on the outside looking in, it just looks like an excuse for closeted republicans to zoom in and thoroughly study Tate’s pink-clad crotch, but to the trans-obsessed, it is a serious investigation of the bulge their ideologies are supposed to be guided by.

But far and away the funniest result of the recent transvestigations movement is the reverse engineering of actual trans celebrities. Such is the case of Dylan Mulvaney, whom this right wing cult has triumphantly claimed… is a woman.
Lest you think this is actual acceptance, though, no: at the heart of all right wing conspiracy theory, there is the malicious mistrust of the “other.” So, it’s not that Mulvaney is a woman, no. Mulvaney, according to these crackpots, was born woman, forcibly transitioned to male in their youth, and is now reclaiming their womanhood.
I knew the porn bans in the US would do some strange damage to some people on the right, but I guess I didn’t have “accidental trans-affirming conspiracy theories” on my bingo card.
