As 2024 comes to an end, it feels like a good time to pause and think about everything the Gay community has been through this year. We’ve had our challenges, but we’ve also had some amazing wins. So, let’s take a moment to celebrate, reflect, and dream about what we can hope for in 2025.
Wins We Can Be Proud Of
This year brought some big moments for our community. We’ve seen progress with new laws recognizing LGBTQ+ rights, including same-sex marriage in more countries. Pride celebrations reached new places, and representation in media continued to grow (thank you Netflix, thank you Amazon Video, DisneyPlus and a few more…), showing the world our stories in ways that felt real and meaningful.
But progress isn’t just about the big news. It’s also about the small, everyday victories: someone coming out to their family and feeling supported, a workplace that becomes more inclusive, or a community standing together to help someone in need.
What We Can Work On in 2025
Even with all the good things, there’s still work to do. Homophobia and transphobia haven’t disappeared, and in some places, things are still really tough for us. Here’s what we can focus on next year:
- Equal Rights Everywhere: Keep pushing for legal protections in places where being LGBTQ+ is still dangerous or illegal.
- Mental Health Support: Make mental health a bigger priority in our community. More resources, less stigma, and open conversations can make a huge difference.
- Building Stronger Connections: Let’s work on supporting everyone in our community, especially those who face extra challenges because of their race, gender, or background.
What Could Be Next in 2025?
There’s a lot to look forward to. Here are some things we can hope for:
- More Queer Leaders: Seeing more LGBTQ+ people in politics, business, and media making a difference.
- Stronger Allies: With more people understanding our experiences, we can expect even more allies standing up for us.
- What am I missing? (Please let me know in the comments)
Big Dreams for the Future
What if we dared to dream big? Imagine if:
- Conversion therapy was banned everywhere.
- LGBTQ+ history and education were part of every school curriculum (it reminds me of the movie “Bros”, with the LGBTQ+ museum).
- Every queer person felt accepted, valued, and loved for who they are.
- A gay president?
Here’s to 2025
As we say goodbye to 2024, let’s celebrate the love, strength, and resilience of our community. We’ve come so far, and there’s so much more we can do together. Here’s to making 2025 our best year yet.
Lot of love,
A.
